    Financial Support To Students

    CTI is continuously investigating ways to build realistic pathways of upward mobility for students from low-income backgrounds. A critical component of all of our solutions involve provide financial support/incentive to these students to reduce the number of hours they need to work at job to make ends meet. These financial support is possible only through the generous support of individuals and organizations to invest in these students’ future. We accept donations of all size:

    1. $2000 will support a student for a semester
    2. $12000 will support a student for the first two years of college which are the years that matter to retaining these students in the computing talent pipeline
    3. $360000 will support a cohort of 30 students through the first two years of their college experience
    4. Any multiple of 1, 2, 3 will help us.

    Why should I partner with CTI?

    There are many different entities that an individual who cares about broadening the computing talent pipeline can partner with. CTI would be a good place for you if you care about:

    • Believe potential talent is spread across many non-selective institutions and not concentrated only in a few elite institutions.
    • Engaging students in the early stages of their computer science college journey
    • Developing systemic solutions that are aligned with community colleges and non-selective (>60% acceptance rate) universities where a significant majority of America’s students start their college career
    • Involving students in open source software development early and see that as a sustainable and scalable solution
    What can I do?
    There are multiple ways by which you can partner with CTI:

    1. Mentor a small group of students through their resume preparation, practicing mock interviews and support them through their internship search
    2. Mentor one or more open source project experiences.
      • Micro-Internships: 4-week experience during the semester for teams of 3, with each student spending about 10 hours per week.
      • Summer Open Source Experience: 8-week experience during the summer for teams of 3, with each student spending 20–40 hours per week.
    3. Provide financial assistance for students in the CTI Learning Communities Programs $12000 investment has an expected impact of $112,000 to $232,000 on the earning potential for these low income students over the next 10 years
      • $2000 per student, for one semester
      • $12000 per student, for 2-years
      • Any multiple of these amounts

      CTI Apprenticeship Program
      CTI Apprenticeship program builds on the CTI Summer Open Source Experience to partner with tech companies to integrate the students’ experience with the particular companies’ goals, projects, values and culture.
