If you are majoring in computer science, a CS Learning Community can provide you with the support and structure you’ll need to succeed in college and be prepared for job opportunities after college.

Learning Community

Instead of going through college by yourself, be part of a community of students, study together and support each other through the challenges of college.

Connect with Students in Other Colleges

CS Learning Communities program is offered at multiple institions. You will build a strong network on students across these institutions to get a headestart on your CS career.

Financial Support

Receive $1000 to $2000 in financial assistance for completing assigned learning goals for a total $12K over the first two years of college.*

* contingent on funding availability.

Important Information

Eligibility

CS Learning Communities is open to any student who is getting started in their Computer Science major. You can be part of a learning community during Fall or Spring semester. Currently, the program is available for students in the following institutions:

  • Cal State Dominguez Hills
  • Cal State Monterey Bay
  • El Camino College
  • Hartnell College

You must be registered in 12 units and taking at least one computer science related course.

No prior knowledge of computer science (programming, coding, etc.) is required.

Application/Admissions Process

1. Complete the CS Learning Communities application form

Apply to CS Learning Communities during Fall or Spring semester. If you are already in the program during Fall and in good standing, you will automatically be moved on to the Spring semester.

You will receive email instructions and access to online content to on board you into the program. Students applying early in the summer before their first semester are strongly encouraged to apply to BECS – Bridge Experience for CS program offered by CTI.

Bridge Experience for Computer Science (BECS) - Pre College Preparation

CS++ kicks off with an hybrid summer bridge experience aimed at building a strong cohort community, introducing you to Computer Science, and laying the foundation for habits and strategies that will ensure your success in the first year of college. During summer bridge, you will have the opportunity to interact with engineers and our alums at some of our industry partners, which may include Amazon, Apple, DoorDash, Google, Lyft, Quizlet, Slack, Salesforce, Uber, VMWare, etc.

More details about the BECS workshop will be communicated during and after the interview.

Financial Support

Because of the increased time commitment and expectation that CS Learning Community students will go above and beyond in their academic pursuits, students accepted into the program are eligible for a financial assistance (This is contingent on funding availability).  As long as students maintain good standing with program, the assistance is distributed based on the completion of the following:

* Currently, funding has been secured for the first two distributions listed below ($3000 in total per student)

First Year Summer Requirements: $1,000
